Good News!!

I was watching the news on Monday and heard about the plan for LA to ban plastic bags!! I was so excited to hear this great news. It won't start becoming effective until March of 2013.
I think this is so great. Single use plastic grocery bags are rarely recycled and they pollute so much of our rivers and oceans.
I highly encourage buying canvas bags. My favorite come from Whole Foods and Fresh and Easy. They last so long and you can wash them over and over again.

I'll Be Back Soon!

Today I had my first experience at Crossroads Trading Co.

It was wonderful.

They sell gently used clothing for great prices.

I left with a cute dress for only $15. I would have paid $60 for it at Nordstrom.

My favorite moment happened when the girl working the cashier asked me, "Do you need a bag?"

I told her how refreshing that was for me to hear, because I am so used to telling people that I don’t need a bag after they’ve already stuffed my items in there.

And guess what they do when you tell them that you don’t need a bag?! They give you a wooden token that is worth 5 cents. As you are leaving the store you can decide which organization to donate that wooden nickel to. I chose the Environmental Defense Fund. You could also choose to donate to the Pasadena Humane Society. A great organization as well.

How great is that though? Instead of giving you a 5 cent discount on your purchase you can pay it forward and donate to a greater cause.

I just love great companies like Crossroads Trading! Seeing companies like them give me hope.

Check it out next time you are in need of a new piece of clothing. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the clothing there.

Jack Johnson is Eco-Friendly!

Jack Johnson really does care about the environment. Last summer I got a free ticket to his concert on the Santa Monica pier for cleaning the beach with Heal the Bay.

Do your part and buy a reusable bottle and bag! The people of Hawaii will thank you. As will the animals. : )

Nuclear Energy

The Sierra Club has done a great job of making it real easy for you to shoot a quick email to your state senators and let them know that we need clean, safe, and renewable energy.

Despite what has just occurred in Japan there are still people in D.C. who say that we should build more nuclear power plants...

Click here to tell your senators that you dont want to worry about a nuclear explosion that could risk the health of yourself and your loved ones.

Thank you!

You and I CAN make a difference. :]

I'm Back and Hoping to do a Better Job This Time :)

Just bumped into this today:

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ I am thrilled to see that one of our meetinghouses is sustainable!! :D

Scientists have studied that 350 ppm of CO2 is a safe amount for humans to be living in. Currently we are at about 380ppm. Therefore we are currently living in an unhealthy amount of CO2 which leads to numerous health problems. It is amazing to see the pictures of people all over the world joining together for a great cause. Look at the photos. You will be inspired.

My School Is So Green!

I love how my college is one of the top greenest schools in America! We have a great recycling program on campus. I actually helped sort paper from a conveyer belt at the recycling center few weeks ago.
Also there is a sustainability council through on campus. I went to one meeting and found myself in charge of the Homecoming Parade float for Blue Goes Green. haha. I'm actually really excited. Theres going to be an electric car, some bikers, and people handing out green challenges.

Speaking of which- I have a challenge for you! Right now all GAP stores are taking any pair of used jeans and giving 30% your purchase of a new pair of gap 1968 jeans. They will turn the used denim into insulation for homes in need. Cool huh? GAP made a sweet video to promote their awesome sustainable event.
I do have to warn you: there is a part of this video that is not suitable for viewers under the age of 13.

Support companies going green! I know you have a pair of jeans that just don't belong in your wardrobe anymore. What better way for them to help a house in need of some warmth!!
