Green Fair

This morning I went to a church's "green" fair with Katherine. We only lasted a half hour there then drove over to old town. haha

I got a free session to a yoga class! That was cool.
I also was able to try out a motorized bicycle. Every time you pedaled you charged the battery. It was fun! The beach cruiser was very cute.

Green Tip Of The Week #6

Dispose of your used batteries correctly! Batteries contain harsh chemicals that when leaked into our ecosystem are harmful to our health. All hazardous waste should be in a concentrated area where the chemicals will be watched over. I am starting a collection at school for used batteries. At the Sierra Madre Library there is a place to drop off your used batteries. So next time you are done with those AAA batteries, don't throw them in the trash... either find a close area where hazardous materials can be dropped off or give them to me!! I would be more than happy to bring them to the Sierra Madre Library.

Also, Hillary found a cool website that is called wordle. It takes a website and creates a collage of the words used the most. Here is mine:

I love it!! All of these words make me happy :D

Today Is The Day!!

Today citizens from 181 countries came together for a day of climate action. Over 5200 events took place. I was a part of two events!!


Our science and environment club put together a video that was shown on the morning announcements. It was a cute video. We used the analogy of cookies! In the video I baked a batch of cookies at 350 degrees and my friend baked them at 400. Of course, her batch was burnt which showed how the ppm of carbon needs to be brought back down to below 350 ppm!
At break we had the whole school come and sign a pledge of what they were going to do to reduce their carbon footprint. I printed out a list of 10 things to do. :D We gave them cookies for signing.




After taking the ACT this morning I met my friend Katherine at the Orange Grove Blvd. bridge over the 134 freeway. If you drove along it you might have seen the giant sign over the freeway that read "350.org Stop Global Warming." There was a global warming rally that took place there. The Unitarian Church (I think that's what they are called) put on the event. It was funny because when Katherine and I got there it was very sparse. It was 1:30 pm and most everyone had gone in the morning. We were most definitely the youngest people out there! It felt good though... I felt like I made a difference! So many people honked as they drove by. Who knows? Maybe because I stood out there with my CLEAN ENERGY sign they remembered to turn off a few extra lights in their home.
Here are the signs I made for today. Well I made the "reduce your CO2 emissions", but I didnt have enough time last night so I asked Dad to write Clean Energy for me. :D (Thanks Dad! It was my favorite side.) I should have taken a picture with Kat but I didnt want to worry about my camera being out there.

This one sends a very powerful message. Glaciers are melting because of the rising temperatures!

THIS is the reason why I strive for environmental peace.

This is my view of the valley I live in. I cannot believe I breathe in all that pollution.


I hope we have made a big enough difference to influence the world leader's decisions to be made at the Copenhagen, Denmark global treaty meeting.

350 day tomorrow!!

Wow. I love this. I am so pumped up for tomorrow! I will be on the bridge over the 134 and 210 freeways waving signs promoting clean energy. :D If you want to come find me, I will be on either side of the orange grove blvd bridge. I'll be there from 1pm-3pm.

Today at school we had our own 350 action. I will post those photos tomorrow.

Seriously though guys... GET INVOLVED!! We are so dependent on fossil fuels it is ridiculous. We have to let Obama know that we are serious about wanting clean energy.

On Friday at break the science and environment club have organized our very own action group for the 350 event! Every class will sign a pledge/promise to "green" our world. I will post pictures. Maybe I can even post the commercial we made today at school.

Green Tip Of The Week #5

Go the speed limit!

Every time you drive over the speed limit, you are emitting more CO2 into the atmosphere.

Benefits: Your car will last longer and you won't get any tickets for speeding!

So go drive your cars environmentally minded! :D

Replace nine 60-watt standard lightbulbs with low-energy compact fluorescent lights. During the life of these long lasting lamps you'll save more than 500 pounds of carbon. :D

Sometimes I wonder if anybody reads this anymore.

The other day in my earthlink newsletter I received news of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year. These pictures are amazing.














These photos amaze me. I can't even begin to comprehend how vast the universe is.

Green Tip Of The Week #3

Take public transportation!

Less cars on the road means less pollution. The Metro is actually a really fun experience. I love going on it. Union station is so beautiful inside. My favorite locations to go via metro are: Philippes, Ol Vera Street, Pantages Theatre, Lake.

Also, instead of flying to your faraway destination, you can take an overnight train!!

What a cool experience would that be? You would have such a great view of the country. I would love to try this sometime.
